Description
A wind-up horn gramophone: a big pale fluted horn with a scalloped rim, a gilt cast tone-arm bracket, a felt-topped turntable with speed regulator and a hand crank, on a wooden case standing on curved wire legs. The badge on the front reads “Columbia Phonograph Company Inc., New York, U.S.A.” with “Viva-tonal” and “like life itself” on the banner. Inside, the spring motor is stamped “Thorens, Swiss Made, No. 24 BC”.
The horn shows chips and wear at the rim, the case has the scuffs of a long life, and it is sold as found; we have not played a record on it. The closest thing in the hold to Captain Nemo’s organ in the salon of the Nautilus, and considerably easier to get up the stairs of a two-flat.
