Description
A flat wooden cutout of a dancing figure, arms flung up, with a curled cap and curled toes: part jester, part imp. The front is painted red, chipped down to white primer and bare wood in places; the back is weathered white with traces of red. Originally, this was the symbol from the old Gioco restaurant at 1300 South Wabash.
The scroll ends of the hands and feet are cut with care, and there are small holes and old fastening marks, so it likely hung on a wall or a sign once. Close-ups show the paint loss and the grain. Dances like nobody on the Red Line is watching.
