From the Captain's Log

I found this and the other Airstream postcards in a thrift store. They're definitely recreations, but the original is from 1962. Looks like they were reprinted around 2000. Pretty cool though on a frame, especially if you have an Airstream or you're into camping. It shows the lifestyle of camper dudes and gals and whatnot.

Name the most you'd pay. We bid for you, just enough to stay in front, like eBay. Nobody sees your max, not even Captain Nemo.

How the bidding works (the short version of the Articles)
  • The first bid starts a 13-day clock. When it hits zero, the top bidder wins.
  • Enter your max. The price only climbs as far as needed to keep you in front, so you may win for less.
  • Each bid has to beat the price by a small step. Ties go to whoever bid first.
  • Some pieces carry a reserve, a minimum price kept secret. If bidding ends below it, the piece doesn't sell. The box tells you if it's met.
  • A bid in the last 5 minutes resets the clock to 5 minutes. No sniping.
  • Win, and we email a pay link. You have 3 days to pay. Pickup is at the South Loop dock.
  • A bid is a promise to buy. Please bid only if you mean it.

Description

A postcard depicting a lively beach scene in front of a polished Globe Trotter trailer. Four people enjoy the white sand: a young man in a snorkel mask offers a conch, a woman in a flag-print shirt laughs, another in a yellow swimsuit holds up white coral, and a man in a polka-dot shirt sits with a starfish. The caption reads: “Airstream Land Yacht, Florida, 1962.” The card is a recreation from around 2000.

The back features a boxed “AIRSTREAM POSTCARD” heading, a place-stamp box, address lines, and the credit “© 2000 Airstream, Inc., from AIRSTREAM, published by Chronicle Books.” It remains blank, ready for your own message. A glimpse into the carefree days of beachside camping, all from the comfort of a Chicago winter.
