Description
A two-panel piece, one shorter than the other, that reads as one long scene. Scattered through it are little islands of old painting, cut from reproductions: gentlemen in ruffs and broad black hats, ladies in satin, a lute player, a stately house in the top corner, a man stooping over a brass basin. Around them the artist has laid on thick, sculpted teal, grey and pink swirls, each one ringed in black like a stained-glass window seen through the deep.
The paint stands proud of the surface (see the close-ups), and a small landscape with a far blue sea peeks out of the black on the right panel. Sold together as a pair, shown side by side.
