Description
Parqueo is Cuban Spanish for a parking spot, and these two have found theirs. A sky-blue sedan and a brick-red one with a V-shaped crest on the hood sit bumper to bumper in the shade, chrome grilles grinning, while yellow columns and palms crowd in behind them. The building at the back carries a sign reading “Partagás, Real Fábrica de Tabacos,” the name of Havana’s old cigar factory. The colours go down flat in yellow, green, blue, red and brown over a black halftone, the way a street photograph looks once it has been pulled through a silkscreen.
In the bottom margin it is numbered 4/5 in pencil, titled “Parqueo,” and signed. The signature looks like “Romero,” but we haven’t confirmed it. An edition of five is a small run, fewer copies than there are boats left in Monroe Harbor in January. Behind glass in a dark red frame.
