Name the most you'd pay. We bid for you, just enough to stay in front, like eBay. Nobody sees your max, not even Captain Nemo.

How the bidding works (the short version of the Articles)
  • The first bid starts a 13-day clock. When it hits zero, the top bidder wins.
  • Enter your max. The price only climbs as far as needed to keep you in front, so you may win for less.
  • Each bid has to beat the price by a small step. Ties go to whoever bid first.
  • Some pieces carry a reserve, a minimum price kept secret. If bidding ends below it, the piece doesn't sell. The box tells you if it's met.
  • A bid in the last 5 minutes resets the clock to 5 minutes. No sniping.
  • Win, and we email a pay link. You have 3 days to pay. Pickup is at the South Loop dock.
  • A bid is a promise to buy. Please bid only if you mean it.

The Deckhand's soundings

What's it worth?

Taking a squint at it...

An estimate from the photos and description, not an appraisal and not a reserve. Bid what it is worth to you; the sea sets no prices and neither do we.

Description

Two masked legends square off across this sheet like a pair o’ privateers fighting over the last barrel of rum. On the left, Hijo del Santo in his silver-white mask with his fist cocked; on the right, Blue Demon Jr. in blue, hand flung wide. Overhead it reads “Sábado 19 mayo 2012,” and all around them: “Otras luchas más,” “Lost Acapulco,” “Surf & Roll!,” “Precios populares,” “5pm,” “DJ Resistol 5000,” “en el Congress Theater” and “Hecho en Chicago,” with little pin-up gals and a “Luchas a Go Gó” burst tucked into the margins.

Printed in teal, coral and black ink on cream paper. Pencilled along the bottom: an artist’s signature we can’t read with confidence, “2012,” and the edition number 53/100. Somebody has also signed across Hijo del Santo’s chest in black marker; we haven’t confirmed whose hand that is. Shot behind glass, so mind the odd reflection. Sails nicely alongside Lot 237 and Lot 235, a piece of the theater herself.
